How web pages work

How web pages work:

"Client-Server" architecture

  • The Client, or Web Browser, requests stuff from the server (think customer in restaurant)

  • Server serves stuff to client (think waiter in restaurant)

  • We need to put our web pages on a SERVER to be served to the CLIENTS or BROWSERS (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Safari). Since web pages are compound documents, we need to put all the pieces of the page there, too.
