The University of Vermont UVM Web ManagementThe Information Technology Executive Committee (ITEC) is responsible for setting policy and establishing guidelines for the UVM web. Discussion and debate of policy issues is facilitated by InfoDog, a local UVM listserv discussion group. It is the grass root efforts of dedicated UVM faculty, staff, and students which provides the bulk of the information on our web. One or more webmasters are responsible for coordinating this grass root effort. The webmasters provide guidelines for pages produced by other university units and act as a resource for other university units in publishing information electronically. The webmasters also format and maintain top-level UVM home pages - the main university home page and several of the secondary pages linked to it. The webmasters provide links from these pages under their direct control to pages developed by academic departments and organizational entities on campus. Individual organizations and departments with consultation and advice from the webmasters maintain these additional pages. Accuracy and timeliness of the information are the responsibility of the department. There are no links to commercial, political, or special interest organizations at the top level. The webmaster does not provide links to personal pages, although others are free to do so. Links to personal home pages are at the discretion of the individual academic departments. UVM claims no editorial control over material maintained in personal pages: certain disclaimers apply. Computing and Information Technology (CIT) is the university's provider of integrated information service through computing and networking technology. CIT will provide the technical support to help university clients provide and access information on the Web. In addition, a local UVM newsgroup exists to discuss issues related to technical issues and the practice and theory of the WWW. This newsgroup is located at news:uvm.websters. The University of Vermont WWW is the creation of many different members of the UVM community using materials from various sources. Users of the UVM site should proceed with the assumption that U.S. copyright law protects these electronically published materials. The university requires that these materials be used for nonprofit educational purposes, in accordance with the fair-use provisions of copyright law. Users should seek permission from the copyright owner for all other uses. To identify the copyright owner, please contact the webmaster of the page with the desired material.
