Scope and Purpose of the UVM Web
At the University of Vermont, we are building a Campus Wide Information System (CWIS) using the World Wide Web. The fruits of our labors are accessible from virtually every workstation on the campus communications network and on the Internet (some of the information distributed is for campus use only and is not available on the Internet).
The mission of our web is to disseminate information about University of Vermont - including its departments, programs, students, faculty and staff - to the local UVM community and the greater Internet global village. In particular:
- To provide for the faculty, staff, and students at UVM information of and about the University, its resources, services, facilities, activities, and people.
- To promote UVM world-wide as a research and educational institution, showcasing its programs, research, and faculty in order to attract graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff, grants, and partnerships.
- To facilitate the University's mission of outreach and public service by extending the knowledge-based services and other resources of the University to local residents, other state residents, and people around the globe.
- To sustain relationships with alumni.
- To facilitate publication of institutional information.
A powerful and noteworthy feature of a web implemented CWIS is that every member of the UVM community - faculty, staff, or student - is empowered to contribute to its mission.
The University supports both institutional and personal web pages. The views expressed on personal web pages are strictly those of the author, and are not reviewed or approved by the University of Vermont
