John H. Sullivan and his sister, Emily.

John Sullivan was born July 2, 1884 in Gurleysville Alabama to William Sullivan and Sallie Browne. He was 24 years old when he enlisted in the Army in 1907 and served until 1913. He was a private in the 10th calvary, Buffalo Soliders, all black regiment. He served in the Philippines and was one of the 750 Soliders who marched into Burlington Vermont in July of 1909.

After his discharge John stayed in Burlington, Vermont and married Emily Ann DeForge. They had six children; one son and five daughters. Three of his daughters a still living. He became a upholsterer for the Champlain Mattress Company in Burlington, VT.

He had one sister, Emily, pictured above This Picture was taken by the Burlington Free Press They had not seen each other in fifty years.

John is buried at Saint Joseph's Cemetary on Archibald Street in Burlington, VT.

John H. Sullivan is buried in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Archibald Street, Burlington, VT. His stone states he was born in 1884 and died in 1956.
