Research Focus:
Dr Bovill's research in recent years has been focused on the pathogenesis of venous thromboembolic disease, a common chronic disease with serious public health implications. Efforts have been focused on gene discovery using genetic linkage strategies in case/control and large family studies. One family (n=800) resides in Northern Vermont and Quebec. His laboratory has recently identified a novel candidate thrombosis risk gene that plays a role in endothelial cell adhesion and thromboresistance which is now being characterized in endothelial cells, human tissue samples and animal models.
