About VACC
The Vermont Advanced Computing Center (VACC) supports computationally-intensive research and high performance computing (HPC) services at the University of Vermont (UVM) and with UVM partners in academia, government, and industry.
At the core of VACC is a 7.1 teraflop computing cluster -- an IBM e1350 known as the Vermont BlueMoon -- developed with support from U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Vermont EPSCoR, and IBM.
VACC's mission includes strategic support in three key areas:
- advancing high-impact, multidisciplinary research efforts in
complex systems
environmental systems
health systems
social systems
- promoting advanced computing education and outreach across disciplines, from undergraduate courses through professional development seminars;
- investing in next generation, innovative and sustainable high performance computing infrastructure models that will provide long-term value to the UVM science and engineering research enterprise
