As we hope you know by now, we will be celebrating our 30ish reunion next spring on campus with the classes of ‘72 and ‘73. Of course, we want it to be a great reunion, so I hope all of you will plan to be there. We’ve already booked the ferry for our class dinner and wait ‘til you see what we’re cooking up for entertainment. We also need your help — both with the event and with the class gift. Contact me if you want more info. If there’s anyone out there web savvy, we desperately need you. Just so you know, the people who are already involved with our reunion are Myron Grauer, Bob Hawes, Annie Viets, and I. Walt Blasberg will be heading up our reunion gift committee. Walt is up at his North Hero House often, but I never see him. Jason Robards reports that his son, Gregory David, is adorable. Some of my summer get togethers included seeing Jim Taylor and Barb Potter ‘76. Jim and Barb head up ResoProductions, and they produce films for A&E and the Disney Channel. So cool! Of course, I talk to Liz Mead Foster often, but I learned after the fact that she completed the Burlington City Marathon last May…all 26 miles. Awesome! As I write this column, Liz and I are expecting to get together with Mary Shaw when she comes up from Texas for a visit. I had a nice chat with Peter Mitchell, who was in town visiting his son, Christopher ‘00. Now for some West Coast news: I presented David Franzoni with his Alumni Achievement Award back in May in a private ceremony at his Malibu home, witnessed by his lovely wife, Nancye, and his dogs, big and little. I also had dinner with Bill Allard and Linda Blackwood when I was in San Francisco. Bill and Linda should start now to make sure all our friends on the West Coast come to our reunion. David Pangaro ‘73 and Leon Martell ‘72 and others out there, please come. Rose DellaVecchia Riel wrote from Clay, N.Y., that she would love to hear from faculty and staff from Winooski High School and Missisquoi Valley Union High School. Her email address is ilime@ dreamscape.com. Mark Gabriel has been back in Vermont for the past ten years. He and his wife, Marilyn, have two children, Chris and Katherine. The Gabriels maintain a private practice in clinical social work and run the Inn at Woodchuck Hill Farm in Grafton. Deborah Buxton and husband John Morris remain in southeast Connecticut. Deborah works in public health, and John is with Sonanalysts, Inc. Daughter Courtney lives in San Diego, and son Benjamin attends Middlebury, while daughter Anne and son Tate are busy in high school. Patricia Lenox Kaufman is getting ready to celebrate 20 years of marriage to husband Seth. They still live on the Upper West Side, and they recently ran into John Wittenberg ‘72 at a Little League game. Patricia was promoted to director of one of the city’s three community guardian programs, serving at-risk seniors and adults. She would love to hear from Johanna and Judy. Joyce Michniewich Cunningham is an associate professor of education at Castleton State College as well as coordinator of the southwest region Teacher Quality Network. I hope Mags Caney Conant was able to contact Carol Giardi to talk about education. Mags, who has been an art teacher at Burlington High School, read about Carol’s teaching award in Hartford, Conn., in our class column. Nice connection. Gretchen Whitney sent me an email message as she was leaving for a trip that would take her from Istanbul to Kathmandu. She thought that our reunion might be just the thing to get her out of Asia and back to reality next May. News keeps coming in, and I just received an email from Marc Milowsky, aka Maypo, and he tells me he had lunch with Zeno Wicks who just completed the Middlebury intensive French course in preparation for taking a year off to live in Ivory Coast in Africa. Zeno, Donny Tenny, and Marty White Tenny ‘70 met Maypo in Hanover. Maypo will be sending a photo. He also told me that Jeff Faller just got remarried, and he learned that Jimmy Seder is doing well. Hope all these guys make it to Reunion ‘02 and that more of you will keep in touch. In closing, finally some news about ME: I’m engaged! More to come…

Class of '72

Hi, everyone! The reunion committee is gearing up for our 30th reunion in June 2002. It will be a joint good time with the classes of ‘71 and ‘73. This will be a great opportunity to catch up with old friends who went to school with us but did not graduate our year. The ideas are bubbling, and the committee is hard at work planning and organizing a wonderful weekend. So, get the lead out and come to Burlington. Let’s make this our best reunion ever. If anyone would like to help create or update our class reunion web page, please contact Annabel Khouri at the Alumni Office via email at annabel. khouri@uvm.edu. Linda Patterson-Weston is principal of P.S. 9 in district 13 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Stephen McDonnell is an account manager with PPL Spectrum, an energy-services company committed to working with schools, hospitals, and industries to implement energy conservation. Steve and his wife, Connie, have a daughter, Alex, and a son, Cole. Alex loves horses and field hockey, while Cole is into computers, drawing “blueprints,” and anything on wheels. Steve is still running marathons and has started doing triathlons. He continues to work on their 150-year-old home in Wavely, Pa. Congratulations to Chuck Suss, who married Marianne Lund in February 2001 in Seattle, Wash. Twin brothers Reg and Ron Boucher had the same major at UVM, social work, and both have been investment brokers for nearly 20 years. They work at different (what a surprise) firms in the Burlington area, Ron at Smith Barney and Reg at A.G. Edwards. They both have two children, and they ended up living in the same development in South Burlington, naturally in the same style house. Ron drives a white Ford Explorer, and Reg’s wife drives a white Ford Explorer. Outside of work, Reg and Ron enjoy playing golf as much as possible. Both are members of the Vermont National Country Club. Incredible!

Catherine Mozden Lewis wrote that after having lived in California for nearly 20 years, she has moved back to the East Coast with her husband and two daughters. She is living in Vienna, Va., and she is happy to be close enough to drive to New England several times a year. Pamela Brown Russell, M.D., received her M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1981. She did a residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, followed by a fellowship in neonatology. Pamela is now medical director of the neonatal satellite program for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She and her husband of 24 years have three children. As most of you know, our 30th reunion is coming next June, and we will be joining the classes of ‘71 and ‘72 for a big celebration at UVM. Hope everyone will save the date. If anyone would like to help create or update our class reunion web page, please contact Annabel Khouri at the Alumni Office via email at annabel.khouri@uvm.edu.

Our 25th reunion has already come and gone. It was a great weekend made possible by the hard work and effort of our reunion committee. Linda and Margie did a great job organizing our class events. Ed and Souf got the planning going early to ensure success. And a big thank you from Skip and me to all who made our class gift drive a rousing success. It was great to catch up with old friends during the spring. Bill Rathbone was missed at reunion. He is living in San Diego and has remarried. Bill still skis on the Master’s Circuit and was the Spyder Sports Grand Champion last year for his age group. The Johnson clan is rounded out by wife Kim and three-year-old Adam. Don Smith is living in Denver and working at Stapleton International Airport. Chris Williams is still playing hockey once a week. Up until February, he enjoyed watching Aaron Miller ‘91 play for the Colorado Avalanche until he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. Chris was on campus in May 2000 for the graduation of his nephew, Geoffrey Robertson ‘00. It was great to see Dennis and Mary Ellen Betit Keresey last April. North East Food Brokerage business is doing great. Their oldest, Sean, will be applying to colleges in the fall. Brenden is a sophomore in high school. Curt Duane continues to live on Cape Cod. When not coaching youth hockey or running golf tournaments to raise money for youth hockey, Curt captains a tugboat up and down the New England coast. Herb Muther and his oldest, Kurt, were in Canton taking a look at St. Lawrence after visiting UVM. Kurt is a senior at the Brooks School. Eric is a sophomore at Noble and Greenough. I received a nice email from Stuart Duke, who quit his job and moved from central Vermont to Reno, Nev., to start graduate-level music studies at the University of Nevada. He received a small scholarship and has worked as a graduate teaching assistant. In the fall of 2000, Stuart was awarded one of Nevada Opera’s first-ever student singing scholarships, and he performed in every opera presented during the season. In May, he received a master of music degree and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi national honor society. Stuart misses Vermont and welcomes any classmates to contact him at s.a.duke@worldnet.att.net. Julie’s husband, Jim, teaches political science at Hawaii Pacific University. Finally, I want to thank the many classmates who had a hand in my being awarded the Alumni Distinguished Service Award. As you can tell, I have made volunteering for UVM a habit since graduation. It has been as rewarding for me as for the university, and I urge you to consider helping out the Old U if you get a chance. Please keep your letters, notes, and emails coming to me for our class notes.

Fellow classmates, I am sorry to say that this will be my last column as your class secretary. If anyone else is interested in taking my place or if you would like to send news for publication in our class column in the future, please contact the UVM Alumni Office, 411 Main Street, Burlington, VT 05401 or send an email to alumni@uvm.edu. It was great to hear from Ronnie Sue Littman Goldfarb, who lives in England with her husband these days. Ronnie Sue and I grew up together and graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, N.J., before attending UVM as classmates. She last wrote, “I started a new job three weeks ago (in July ‘01), and I am learning about the products and learning to find out where to go for assistance. I am a patient care representative for Abbott Nutrition, which means that I train people on the usage of feeding pumps.” She continued that she is not planning to be in the U.S. again until Thanksgiving for her nephew’s Bar Mitzvah. Oh, to be living in England… Paul Sisson is also living abroad, but he resides in The Netherlands. He advises Dutch and Belgian clients on the use of U.S. accounting principles and auditing standards and divides his time between the Amsterdam and Brussels offices. He wrote that he, his wife, and their daughter live near The Hague. His daughter attends the American School. Paul also wrote that the family celebrated her 12th birthday with a trip to Disneyland Paris. Gary Medvigy wrote: “I would like to hear from any old, but not forgotten friends, SAE brothers, or fellow Army ROTC cadets. You can send me email at sja351ca@cs.com. I live in Sebastopol, Calif. In my civilian life, I lead the gang prosecution unit of the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office. Although many of my fellow graduates are now retiring from the active and reserve forces, as a result of a break in service, I still have years to serve, and my career continues.” Gary is a lieutenant colonel, recently selected to command the 14th Psychological Operations Battalion of the 7th PSYOP Group, a reserve command on active airborne jump status. Bob Chodos wrote recently that the Chodos clan resides in Northfield, Ill., near Chicago. He and his wife, Chris, have three sons, Robert, Hudson, and Adam, all of whom are busy with school and sports. Bob mentioned that his Northfield neighbors include classmates Dana and Scott Turban. Bob has worked in real estate for the past 20 years, and he is currently a partner with The John Buck Company, responsible for their strategic advisory group. Bob stays in touch with Lou Foah, who lives in Atlanta, Ga., Steve Cornell in Madison, Conn., Dan Johnson and Kirk Dice, both in Breckenridge, Colo., and, of course, the Turbans. Please write Bob at bchodos@tjbc.com. Sharon Pluta Bixby wrote proudly that her daughter, Pam, has completed her first year at UVM. Sharon is delighted to find herself back on campus again. Sharon, that’s fantastic news. Tracy Johnston Kirchner wrote that she is completing a graduate program in school nursing at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. Tracy lives in nearby Lancaster, recognized as the heart of “Pennsylvania Dutch Country,” just 30 miles from my old stomping ground in Chadds Ford, Pa. Laura Rittenhouse lives seaside in Northport, N.Y., on Long Island. She wrote, “I would love to hear from the guys in the Fish Suite.” You can send Laura an email message at hitrit@ aol.com. Richard Enemark lives in Albany, N.Y., where he is in his third year as headmaster of the Doane Stuart School, America’s only merged Protestant-Catholic school. He wrote, “I love watching my children grow in the school I head.” Robert Kershner, MD ‘80 is a clinical professor of ophthalmology at the University of Utah School of Medicine Moran Eye Center and director of the Eye Laser Center in Tucson, Ariz., recently was honored as the IK HO Visiting Professor of Ophthalmology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has given speeches and demonstrations on his field in China, Taiwan, South Africa, and Switzerland. As for me, I relocated to Las Vegas last June with my husband and our two Retrievers. I drove across country, and it took about a week, with plenty of rest stops for the doggies and visits along the way. Six weeks later, my husband, Mark, began cooking at Picasso in the Bellagio Hotel, named the #1 restaurant in Las Vegas by Zagats. Most incredibly, just two weeks after my arrival, I landed an excellent position with the State Bar of Nevada, and I am very happy in my new job. I wasn’t planning to go back to work so quickly; however, it is so unbelievably, indescribably hot here in Las Vegas that there is really nothing to do all day but work. Well, that’s a wee bit of an exaggeration…but how many days in a row can one spend in a casino? Have a safe and happy fall!

Class of '79
