Subscribe to RSS feeds of our news stories

RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is a tool to help you monitor your favorite Web sites for new content without having to frequently visit them yourself, a process that becomes tedious if you want to stay current on a variety of sites that post new content regularly, like news sites and blogs. RSS is quickly replacing e-mail updates, a service that sends an e-mail to notify you when a new story is posted in the content area you have selected. With the increased use of "spam filters," e-mail updates have become unreliable. RSS, which will not overwhelm your inbox or be mistaken as spam, gives you the opportunity to have the information you care about monitored for you and delivered to you, usually in the form of a headline, summary of the article and a link to the content itself.

How Do I Get Started?

To receive RSS feeds, you will need a news reader, also known as a news aggregator, to display the RSS feeds to which you subscribe. There are a variety of free news reader applications available for download online; searching for "RSS news reader" using a search engine will provide links to some available options.

You may choose to use a Web-based reader instead of downloading an application. Feedster and Bloglines are among the most popular.

If you use Mozilla Firefox, Opera or Safari, your Web browser is already equipped with news reader functionality.
