Vermont PBS’s new six-part online series “InnoVaTe” explores and celebrates the state’s innovator culture. This episode focuses on Generator, a UVM-sponsored maker space in Burlington that fosters collaboration among a community of artists, engineers and entrepreneurs.

Among those whose work is highlighted in this episode is Spanish professor Tina Escaja, who spent time as a "maker in residence" at Generator. She's used the resources the space provides to merge her poetry with a new medium: robotics.

The university has been a supporter of Generator since its creation in 2013, sponsoring the computational/app development area in the space and hosting a “Pitch It, Fab It” contest to give budding inventors access to the advanced machinery and expertise of UVM’s Instrumentation & Model Facility. Class visits are also giving students a first-hand look at the innovation of the local maker scene.

"Helping to start Generator has been one of the most interesting initiatives I've been part of," says Dan Harvey, Generator's board president and director of operations for the UVM's Office of the Vice President for Research. "It's another great example of how UVM supports innovation and economic development in the region."
