When it comes to family business student case competitions, every year the world comes to the University of Vermont in Burlington.

The third annual Family Enterprise Case Competition (FECC) hosted by the University of Vermont, School of Business kicks off today.

The FECC brings together 24 of the world’s finest family business programs and their teams from afar afield as India, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, the Netherlands, Chile, Spain, Malaysia, France, Mexico, the U.K., Canada and Sweden, as well as the U.S. totaling more than 200 participants, truly a world cup of student competition.

Students, coaches and judges representing more than 20 countries from four continents descend on Burlington, Vt. for the event, which for four days will become the global epicenter for family business education and competition.

The FECC is an annual competition that showcases exceptional undergraduate and master's students' case writing, analysis and presentation skills. Students apply the knowledge and expertise they have developed in the classroom toward solving complex family business cases.

During four tough rounds of competition, teams present their case findings and recommendations to a distinguished panel of judges who will determine which group best understood, analyzed and presented the most compelling case study.

Sixteen undergraduate and eigth graduate teams are competing for the coveted Family Enterprise undergraduate and graduate cups, with 17 teams returning from previous years.

Last year’s winners will be returning to defend their titles; they being the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montreal, who took the top slot in the undergraduate rankings, and the team from Jönköping International Business School in Sweden in the graduate competition.
