It’s no wonder that the STEM facility -- a project that will transform central campus -- is moving forward.

2. Cats represented at the Olympics

Sharp and St. Louis

As the world tuned into the Olympics, Catamounts watched five of their own — both alumni and a current student — compete for the gold. Hockey players Patrick Sharp and Martin St. Louis took a gold home to Canada. To mark the occasion, Sharp tweeted the above photo with this caption: “Spent my career at the U of Vermont dreaming of playing in the NHL like Marty St. Louis. Now we share a gold medal.”

3. World luminaries graced our campus

The UVM community was treated to an impressive range of guest lecturers this year. Highlights included foremost food activist and bestselling author Michael Pollan, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner, Orange is the New Black author Piper Kerman and series actress Laverne Cox, Civil Rights icon Julian Bond, National Book Critics Circle award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Do the Right Thing, Hunger Games and Foxcatcher producer Jon Kilik, and MacArthur Foundation “genius” award winner Alison Bechdel.

4. On April Fool’s Day, Catamount Ice was born
