The Department of Music and Dance and Department of Theatre have joined together to create the first UVM "Fall Festival of the Arts," Nov. 6-20, featuring student performences and events from both departments. The festival will display the wide range of performances and other creative work including performances by student ensembles such as the Orchestra, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Post-Bop Combo, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble in the Recital Hall; Thornton Wilder’s Our Town at the Royall Tyler Theatre; and dance events, including the first Vermont College Dance Festival at the Flynn Theatre, and a dance master class by guest artist Adele Myers at Mann Gymnasium.

"The Festival doesn't include all the performances or events our students take part in this semester," said Prof. D. Thomas Toner, chair of the Department of Music and Dance. "Rather, it is the 15 days of the semester when the creativity of our students is at its most intense."

In addition to the entire run of Our Town, other highlights include two large works by American composer Frank Ticheli ("Vesuvius" by the Concert Band and "Angels in the Architecture" by the Wind Ensemble), renowned jazz trumpeter Professor Ray Vega leading the Nonet and Post Bop combos in music by Charles Mingus, Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver and others; and the inaugural Vermont College Dance Festival, which will bring together students from UVM, Middlebury College, Bennington College, St. Michael's College, Johnson State College and Castleton State College.

Tickets are required for Our Town and the Vermont College Dance Festival Showcase, but all the events in the Recital Hall and Mann Gym are free. Learn more about the "Fall Festival of the Arts."
