The University of Vermont will join audiences in 70 locations from across the country on Thursday, Oct. 16 via live webcast from the Fleming Museum, room 101, for “China Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections,” featuring a Q&A with former President Jimmy Carter.

Some of the word’s most critical issues including economics, climate change, security, and trade, will require the Unites States and China -- the two largest economies, energy users and emitters of greenhouse gasses -- to cooperate in order to achieve lasting global solutions. The purpose of the town hall, sponsored by National Committee on U.S.-China Relations in collaboration with the Carter Center, is to provide an opportunity for people to ask questions about these complex issues and the dynamic and evolving relationship between the U.S. and China.

In addition to the national program, each venue will have a prominent China expert to address topics of interest relevant to that community and region. Prior to the town hall, Jeanne Shea, associate professor in anthropology, will give a lecture at 6 p.m. on “U.S.-China Linkages in Global Health.” The one-hour live webcast at 7 p.m. will be followed by a discussion with Shea and Professor Emeritus Juefei Wang, founder of UVM’s Asian Studies Outreach Program.

Information about program locations nationwide is available on the National Committee on United States-China Relations website
