The University of Vermont has named Stacey Kostell vice president for Enrollment Management. She begins at UVM Sept. 2.

Kostell previously served as the assistant provost for enrollment management at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a position she had held since 2010. From 2004 to 2010 she was director of undergraduate admissions at the university. Before joining the University of Illinois, she held admissions leadership positions at Arizona State University and Purdue University. Kostell holds a bachelor of arts degree in communications from Indiana State University and a master of arts degree in higher education administration from Ball State University.

At the University of Illinois, Kostell provided leadership to four units that make up the Enrollment Management office: undergraduate admissions, student financial assistance, the registrar, and marketing and communications. She successfully led efforts to nearly double applications and significantly enhance the quality and diversity of the applicant pool. She also played a lead role in the university’s enrollment management program, spearheading retention and graduation data analysis.

“We are indeed fortunate to attract someone of Stacey’s experience and reputation to the University of Vermont,” said UVM president Tom Sullivan. “She brings extensive enrollment management leadership experience and a record of success at three of the nation’s top public universities."

“I’m very excited to be coming to the University of Vermont,” Kostell said. “After working at several large public universities, I’m particularly impressed by UVM’s core identity as a top research institution that places strong emphasis on undergraduate education. I think that mix is a very appealing one for prospective students today. I also look forward to working with a team of colleagues to take UVM’s retention and graduation rates, which are already very good, to an even higher level.”

John Ryan has served as interim vice president for enrollment management since mid-June. “John has brought tremendous energy, vision, and thoughtful leadership to his role as interim vice president,” said Sullivan. “We are very grateful to him."
