The Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals, with support from the University of Vermont’s LGBTQA Center and Middlebury College, will hold its annual Institute on July 11 at the Davis Center. This year’s day-long event is titled “Points of Influence: LGBT Students, Social Change, and You.”

The plenary, “When Campus Activism Drives State and National Policy Progress,” will be delivered by Rep. Bill Lippert, who has served in the Vermont House of Representatives since 1994 and is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and Raja Bhattar, director of the UCLA LGBT Center.

Topics to be covered include: working with LGBT students; LGBT youth transitioning to college; transgender student and health needs; assessing campus climate and programs; needs of queer students of color; working with athletics, fraternity and sorority life, and other areas; and LGBTQ issues in K-12 environments.

One of the primary goals of the institute is to provide low-cost professional development for staff, faculty, and graduate students who either work on LGBTQ issues or would like to expand their skills and knowledge around working with and/or delivering services to LGBTQ students.  Networking opportunities with LGBTQ resource practitioners from around the region and nationally is also a major benefit.
