The Arbor Day Foundation has named the University of Vermont a Tree Campus USA. At a ceremony held outside Bailey Howe library on Friday, Steve Sinclair, director of forests in the Vermont Department of Forests, Recreation and Parks, presented a commemorative plaque from the Arbor Day Foundation to UVM provost David Rosowsky.

Campuses in the program must meet five standards: having a tree advisory committee; a tree care plan; a dedicated annual expenditure for tree care; an Arbor Day observance; and a service learning project related to trees.

Members of the tree advisory committee are Mark Starrett, associate professor of Horticulture in the Plant and Soil Science Department; Rosemarie Leland, grounds manager at UVM; Peter Roach, a junior majoring in Plant Biology; and Warren Spinner, Burlington City Arborist.
