The newly established Vermont Center on Behavior and Health continues its monthly lecture series with a talk by Sarah Heil, associate professor of psychiatry and psychology: "Buprenorphine for treating opioid-dependent pregnant women: Behavioral pharmacology in action."

The lecture, free and open to the public, will take place Monday, Nov. 18 at noon in Davis Auditorium, Medical Education Center Pavilion, Fletcher Allen Health Care.

Since joining the UVM faculty in 2002, Heil has been continuously funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Her research interests include the behavioral and pharmacological processes involved in substance use disorders, with a special focus on pregnant and recently postpartum women and their infants. In recent years, Heil's research with colleagues to improve the treatment of opioid dependence during pregnancy has led to changes in clinical practice guidelines in the U.S. and many other countries.
