Seniors Tad Cooke and Eric Crockenberg and graduate student Jason McCune are featured in the Burlington Free Press for their work on heating greenhouses without fossil fuels. For the past two years, they have been working out how to channel the heat produced by composting manure, with pipes carrying the heat and carbon dioxide directly into the soil. Using grants from UVM’s Clean Energy Fund, they are currently testing out their project at the Horticulture Research Center, using manure from UVM’s Miller Farm to heat a greenhouse full of tomatoes.
