President of UVM Thomas Sullivan co-authors an op-ed in the Chronicle of Higher Education, about first amendment rights and how they apply to university faculty. The piece explains the potentially limiting effects on free speech that arose from the 2006 Supreme Court case Garcetti v. Ceballos, and profiles subsequent cases that have shifted the scales back towards faculty. Sullivan calls upon the Supreme Court to continue to limit the reach of the Garcetti case by “rejecting any threat it may pose to the academic freedom of the professoriate.” Read the story…
