A community development and applied economics course taught by Professor Kathleen Liang is profiled in an Associated Press article picked up by the Boston Globe and other publications. A month-long project sees groups of students in the class create and operate small businesses on campus, selling various small products. They get a sense what it means to run a business, and raise money for charity, with the class donating more than $40,000 to more than 300 charitable organizations over the past eight years. Most importantly, Liang says, students running the mini-businesses get ‘‘a chance to learn and to see what it’s like, the challenges and rewards.’’ Read the story…
