Faculty Panel to Discuss Crisis In Syria

Experts from across disciplines will gather to examine the increasingly complex issues surrounding the Syrian civil war on Thursday, Sept. 19, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Room 427, Waterman Building.

"The aim of this event is to provide critical insights on the crisis in Syria from multiple academic perspectives,” says Bogac Ergene, associate professor of history and organizer of the panel. “Experts on the Middle East, U.S. foreign policy, human rights issues and ethics of war and military intervention will share their insights with the UVM community and general public."

Speakers will include Ergene as well as Gregory Gause, professor of political science, Mark Stoler, professor emeritus of history, Melissa Willard-Foster, assistant professor of history, and Middlebury College guest Steve Viner, assistant professor of philosophy.

The event, sponsored by the UVM Middle East Studies Program, is free and open to the public.
