The Burlington Free Press covers the two-year research project of UVM geology professor Beverley Wemple, studying the pollution effects of unpaved roads in Vermont. Such roads constitute more than half of Vermont’s motorways, and Wemple’s research suggests that they contribute between ten and thirty percent of the annual influx of phosphorous into Lake Champlain.
