The College of Medicine’s publication for the literary and visual arts, The Red Wheelbarrow, began its history in the 1990s, and has appeared periodically over the years. Now, a student-run initiative is seeking to continue that tradition on a more regular basis. The journal is named after physician-writer William Carlos Williams’ famous 1923 poem. Williams, born in 1883, was one of the leading American poets of his generation, all while running a busy solo general practice for 40 years in the Paterson, N.J., area.

Students Matthew Lin ’16 and Nicholas Sinclair ’16 headed up the effort, founding a student interest group with eight other volunteers. The 2013 issue of The Red Wheelbarrow, featuring work by students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the College, is available online as a “flipbook”.  A publication event is in the planning stages for later this fall, as well as recruitment of new interest group members from the incoming first-year Class of 2017.
