Luebbers Appointed Assistant Dean for Clinical Research Administration

Kimberly Luebbers, MSHS, RN, BSN, OCN, has been appointed Assistant Dean for Clinical Research Administration effective August 16, 2013, overseeing the Office of Clinical Trials Research and administration of the Clinical Research Center. Luebbers is currently serving as Deputy Director for Administration for the Vermont Cancer Center and Director of the Office of Clinical Trials Research at UVM and Fletcher Allen. In her new role, she will support the robust clinical research enterprise at UVM and Fletcher Allen, including the Vermont Cancer Center clinical research staff, and will remain actively engaged in many aspects of cancer advocacy and leadership, locally, regionally and nationally.

After joining Fletcher Allen in 1988, Luebbers earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology and worked in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as a Medical Technologist.  While working in the lab, Kim earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and subsequently joined the Hematology Oncology Clinic as an oncology nurse.  She became a senior research nurse in 2002 and was named Research Nurse Manager for the Office of Clinical Trials Research in 2003.  Luebbers was appointed interim director in 2005 and named Director of the OCTR in 2006, overseeing industry-sponsored research activities and providing assistance to investigators in protocol development, planning, submission and resource management. She was appointed to the additional role of Administrative Director of the Vermont Cancer Center in 2007, with oversight and responsibility for the Vermont Cancer Center business functions and clinical research staff.

“Kim has a track record of success in managing the administrative, regulatory and financial aspects of clinical research, along with a dedication to comprehensive high quality care for patients and participants involved in clinical trials,” said Ira C. Bernstein, MD, UVM Senior Associate Dean for Research and Senior Advisor for Clinical Research for the UVM Medical Group at Fletcher Allen. “We are confident that Kim will bring experience and leadership to the conduct of clinical research across our institutions.”

In addition to her Bachelor of Science degrees from UVM, Luebbers holds a Master’s degree in Health Science from George Washington University. She is a Registered Nurse, Certified Oncology Nurse and Certified Medical Technologist. She has been a member of the National Oncology Nursing Society since 1998, was a Leadership Development Fellow in 2002, and served as president of the Northern Vermont chapter from 2003-05.
