University of Vermont Professor of Neurological Sciences Helene Langevin, M.D., is world-renowned for her revolutionary research findings regarding the role of connective tissue in chronic musculoskeletal pain, and the mechanism of effect of acupuncture, manual and movement-based therapies.

A member of the UVM faculty since 1996 and the current director of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Langevin's basic science and clinical research over the past 17 years has uncovered compelling evidence that stretching the connective tissue – produced by such activities as yoga and massage – may be therapeutic and offer a non-pharmaceutical method for treating certain types of chronic pain. Langevin recently authored an article, titled “The Science of Stretch,” in the magazine “The Scientist.”
