A public conference, titled "Leading the Necessary (r)Evolution for Sustainable Food Systems," will be held at UVM Thursday, June 27 from 1 to 5 p.m. Thought leaders from around the globe will discuss the regional food system approach, and all are invited to tune in to a live stream on the UVM Food Feed blog or on the UVM Food Systems Facebook page.

Food experts and leaders at the conference include Tamar Adler, award-winning and James Beard nominated author of An Everlasting Meal: Cooking with Economy and Grace; Sandor Katz, author of The Art of Fermentation; Gary Paul Nabhan, author of The Pleasures and Politics of Local Foods; Tanya Fields, Executive Director of Bronx-based BLK ProjeK, and Karen Washington, a NYC-based community activist and recipient of Ebony magazine's 100 Influential African Americans. The public conference is part of UVM's second annual Food Systems Summit, which seeks to answer the pivotal question: “How can we create regional food systems that are viable alternatives to the conventional one that exists now?” Major leaders in food systems and sustainability have gathered at UVM this month to offer solutions and engage in discussion about the ways that we can remedy our broken food system. The first part of the summit, a three-week long certificate program held June 10-28, educated emerging food leaders about systemic issues and how to effect change on an individual and organizational level.
