John Burke, professor of microbiology & molecular genetics, is invited to “Vermont Edition” to discuss a recent article in the journal Nature in which refined carbon dating techniques suggest Neanderthal remains which were thought to have coexisted with modern humans are twice as old as previously thought. Burke argues, however, that the DNA evidence still demonstrates that Homo sapiens interbred with Neanderthals and most modern humans are descended from both.
