The UVM Film series begins its new season Thursday, Jan. 24 with The Fountain, a 2006 film from director Darren Aronofsky that tells three parallel stories, spanning the 16th to the 26 century, about love and mortality. The pre-film discussion begins at 6 p.m. in the Billings Lecture Hall, and the film screening follows at 6:45.

The spring series, featuring four films, explores the following questions: How do we see our bodies in relation to our planet (The Fountain)? What role does a face play in creating identity (Seconds)? How does dance both unite and alienate us from our bodies and cultures (Dancing Across Borders)? And how do sports, race, and politics converge in our bodies (Ali)? Professor Hilary Neroni will lead the discussions that precede each film, as well as a post-screening Q&A.

The UVM Film Series is a membership-based program in partnership with UVM's Lane Series, Film and Television Studies Program and the Fleming Museum of Art. A subscription for the season, which includes admission to all four films, is $25.00. To join, visit the Lane Series website or call (802) 656-4455. Single tickets are available for $10 for adults and $4 for students and faculty at the door on the night of the film.
