- By University Communications
The Fleming Museum hosts Evan Ziporyn and Christine Southworth of Boston's Gamelan Galak Tika, an MIT-based music ensemble, who will perform Balinese gender wayang, traditional music of the Balinese shadow puppet theater, Friday Nov. 2 at 6 p.m.
Their music will be accompanied by film footage of Bali in the 1930s shot by composer and ethnomusicologist Colin McPhee. The performance will also include an interactive demonstration of the kecak, the monkey chant, with members of the audience.
This presentation is being held in conjunction with the current exhibition of Oceanic art from the Museum's permanent collection: Oceanic Art and the Performance of Life.
