Caroline Bruzelius, the Anne M. Cogan Professor of Art and Art History at Duke University, will speak on "Modeling the Historical Past: Digital Technologies and the Humanities in the 21st Century " Monday, Oct. 8, at 4 p.m. in Billings Lecture Hall. A reception will immediately follow the talk.

Bruzelius works on medieval architecture, engaged in issues that include construction process and the social function of space in France and Italy from the 12th to the 14th centuries. She is particularly interested in the Mendicant orders and how their externalized mission transformed the concept of church space. In her work on Naples, she has examined several convents for women exploring how strict enclosure affected women’s experience of the sacred in the 13th and 14th centuries. At Duke University, Bruzelius initiated a faculty group called Wired!, that integrates digital technology into teaching material culture.

The event, free and open to the public, is hosted by the Burack President's Distinguished Lecture Series and is co-sponsored by the Departments of History, Art and Art History, and Religion.
