The Burack President's Distinguished Lecture Series brings Theodore C. Bestor, Reischauer Institute Professor of Social Anthropology and Japanese Studies at Harvard University, to campus Friday, Nov. 11.

Bestor will lecture on "Disasters, Food, and Fishing: Japan's Northeast in the Aftermath of 3/11" at 4 p.m. in North Lounge, Billings. The event is free and open to the public, and a reception will immediately follow.

Author of TSUKIJI: The Fish Market at the Center of the World (2004), Bestor is a co-organizer of Harvard University’s Digital Archive of Japan’s 2011 Disasters. He is also chair of the Department of Anthropology at Harvard and the president-elect of the Association for Asian Studies. His current research focuses on the aftermath of the March 11, 2011 Tohoku earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan, particularly their impact on national food supply and perceptions of food safety.
