The dance program at UVM presents its annual spring recital, Dancing Uphill, Thursday, March 24 to Saturday, March 26 at 8 p.m., in Mann Gymnasium on the Trinity Campus. There will also be a matinee performance on March 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10.

This year’s exciting choreography, according to dance lecturer Clare Byrne, ranges from the work of famed visiting artists Nicholas Leichter and Heidi Henderson to UVM faculty to five strong students who won praise from professionals adjudicating performances at the recent New England Conference of the American College Dance Festival Association.

This year’s program will also be playing with space and how it affects experiences on and off the stage. Not only are dancers on the same level as the audience, seating is arranged on two sides of the floor, so onlookers are watching each other as well as the performers. “We’re trying to take away the wall between the dance and the audience,” Byrne says.
