Academy Award-nominated film producer Jon Kilik, a graduate of the UVM class of 1978, will present a special one-night showing of his new film Miral, which tells the story of an orphaned Palestinian girl in the wake of the first Arab-Israeli war, on Sunday, March 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Merril's Roxy Cinema in Burlington. Kilik will present the film -- which opens in the U.S. March 25 and stars Freida Pinto, Hiam Abbass and Willem Dafoe -- at the Roxy and participate in a Q&A, led by Professor Emeritus Frank Manchel, immediately following.

Tickets, $10, are available online at www.uvmtickets.com, at the Roxy box office or the Majestic 10 box office in Williston, Vt. Proceeds will benefit Film and Television Studies students at UVM.

Kilik's impressive string of credits began with the co-producer role on Spike Lee films across nearly two decades, a collaborative effort on some of the most thought-provoking movies of our generation.

Beyond Lee, Kilik has worked as a producer with other major talents of the film industry including Robert Altman, Robert DeNiro, Tim Robbins and Julian Schnabel. His career has included work on films such as Dead Man Walking, Pleasantville, and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, as well as Babel and Biutiful, nominees for Academy Awards in the categories of best picture and foreign language film, respectively.

"He's one of the most well known and accomplished independent film producers," says film studies and English professor Hilary Neroni, "and we feel very lucky and grateful that he enjoys coming back and sharing his experiences with the students at UVM."

On Monday, March 28, Kilik will do just that. He'll spend the day on campus with students, visiting classes to screen Miral and discuss his work on this film and his career as a producer.
