Biography:Professor of nutrition and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Johnson gained national attention for speaking out against Americans' high consumption of added sugars, when she was a member of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Department of Health and Human Services 2000 Dietary Guidelines for Americans advisory committee. She was also vocal about the 2005 updated guidelines and food guide pyramid. She received the 2001 Award for Excellence in Research from the American Dietetic Association Foundation (see Related Articles, to the right). Her research on the effects of both flavored milk and soft drinks on children's diets has been widely published in the academic and popular press, as has her work on caffeine use. She is senior nutrition advisor and frequent contributor to Eating Well magazine. Her work has been cited in articles in The Lancet, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Consumer Reports and in nationally circulated women's and general interest publications.
