Specialty:remediation of contaminated soil, groundwater and wastewater
Biography:Hayden's research areas include: in-situ physical/chemical and biological remediation techniques for treating organic compounds from contaminated environments; phytoremediation and constructed wetland strategies; fate and transfer of contaminants in the environment; contaminant partitioning & mass transfer from immiscible liquids to soil, water and air phases in porous media and surface water; and retention of immiscible fluids in soils. She currently has funding from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture for research in these areas. She was recently appointed as a member of the Committee on Source Removal of Contaminants from the Subsurface as part of the National Research Council's Water Science and Technology Board. Hayden currently serves as a commissioner on the University's President's Commisssion on the Status of Women (PCSW).
