Biography:Dr. Michael J. Zvolensky received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from West Virginia University in 2001. He currently Richard and Pamela Ader Green and Gold Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Vermont and Director of the Anxiety and Health Research Laboratory and Clinic. Dr. Zvolenskys research program cuts across basic and applied work in the area of anxiety disorders. Specifically, his work is principally focused on examining vulnerability processes involved with the onset and maintenance of these disorders. In pursuit of this knowledge,he uses two interrelated and convergent research approaches: one is basic research on emotional vulnerability and the second is clinical extensions of that basic research in the form of theoretically-driven psychosocial interventions strategies. He has been especially involved in better understanding the role of smoking in terms of the etiology and maintenance of panic-related problems, and at the same time, the role panic vulnerability factors may play in smoking cessation. Dr. Zvolenskys work is funded through the National Institute on Drug Abuse and National Institute of Mental Health. He has published over 140 scientific articles and received a variety of early contribution to the field awards from professional organizations.
