Biography:Usher teaches courses in the history and culture of ancient Greece, Greek epic and lyric, comparative epic, and Latin literature. He is the author of several books, including "A Student's Seneca" (University of Oklahoma Press, 2006), "Homeric Stitchings" (Rowman & Littlefield, 1998) and an edition of the Homeric Centos (B. G. Teubner, 1999). Other published work includes articles on, e.g., Homer, Longinus, Plato, Euripides, the Sibyl, A. E. Housman and Ezra Pound. In 1999 he composed the Latin libretto for "Voces Vergilianae," an opera-oratorio based on Vergil's Aeneid by composer John Peel. He is also the author of a picture book for children, "Wise Guy: The Life and Philosophy of Socrates" (illustrated by William Bramhall; Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2005). He is one of the key organizers of UVM's annual Latin Day.
