Biography:Starrett teaches courses in ornamental plant science and propagation -- particularly woody landscape plants. Likewise, his research includes cold-hardiness trials of select woody ornamentals. He compared organic and traditional soilless media for seed germination performance and subsequent plant development. Currently he is evaluating the effects of mycorrhizae on pepper seedling growth. In 2002 Starrett was named National Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture teacher fellow and received the Joseph E. Carrigan Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has served as president of the Northeast Region of the American Society for Horticultural Science, the executive board of the Northeast Heather Society and the Vermont representative for the New England Cary Award Plant Selection Committee.
