|Biography:||Carlson specializes in the study of comparative politics and the politics of East Asia (focusing on Japan and China) with particular interests in the areas of human rights, democracy, public opinion, and electoral systems. His current research examines citizens’ views of politics in Asia and Japanese domestic politics. He teaches classes on comparative politics, the politics of China, Japan and East Asia, and Asian politics and film. He has authored two books: "Democracy and Governance in Asia" (Trans Pacific Press 2006) and "Money Politics in Japan" (Lynne Rienner Press 2007). His articles have appeared in journals including Asian Survey, Journal of Peace Research, Japanese Journal of Political Science, and the Journal of East Asian Studies.
