Biography:Trainor specializes in South Asian religious traditions. His area of research includes Theravada Buddhist traditions, especially Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Other research interests include gender analysis and ritual studies. He completed a master of divinity degree in Church History at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and a Ph.D. in Religion at Columbia University. His publications include: BUDDHISM: THE ILLUSTRATED GUIDE; and RELICS, RITUAL, AND REPRESENTATION IN BUDDHISM: REMATERIALIZING THE SRI LANKAN THERAVADA TRADITION. He also has authored several articles that have been published in books and in scholarly journals such as the JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF RELIGION. Trainor is a board member of the Friends of Indian Music and Dance, an organization devoted to bringing musicians and dancers from the performance traditions of India to Burlington. During the 1997-98 academic year he was a Fulbright Senior Scholar at the Department of Linguistics at the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka.
