|Biography:||Karen’s experience in transportation includes serving as Deputy Secretary and Director of Policy and Planning of the Vermont Agency of Transportation. In her role at the Transportation Center, Karen manages the outreach and professional education programs. Her transportation research interests include transportation finance, workforce development and developing sustainable transportation systems.
Karen is the state coordinator for the Clean Cities Coalition, a US DOE funded program, which is hosted by the TRC. Vermont’s Clean Cities is one of only a few which focuses state wide and is the only Coalition hosted by a University Transportation Center.This position allows UVM to work towards national leadership in creating transportation and energy partnerships that advance the nation's economic, environmental, and energy security by supporting local decisions to adopt practices that contribute to the reduction of petroleum consumption.
Kare is the lead PI on a $1 million US DOT Transportation Education Development Pilot Program which seeks to find novel ways to recruit and retain transportation workers. In addition, she is the lead PI on the Summer Transportation Institute, a four week residential camp for high school students which provides career awareness in the transportation industry.
Karen received a B.A. in Political Science from University of Vermont in 1985 and was admitted to the Vermont bar in 1990. She served as a member of the Vermont House of Representatives from 1985-1990.|
