Public Relations:Josh Brown (802)656-3039
Specialty:modeling biotic systems, evolutionary computation, aquatic ecosystems, ecology of stream algae, invasive species
Biography:Hoffmann teaches courses in aquatic botany, phycology and plant ecology, while his research focuses on the ecology of algae and developing simulation models of aquatic ecosystems. Under a Department of Energy EPSCoR grant he is currently researching genetic programming to evolve optimally specified process models of biological systems. Previously, through a major EPA grant he sudied the effects of phosphorous in stream ecosystems. He also conducts research on evolutionary computation applied to modeling complex biological systems in UVM's Department of Computer Science.
