Biography:Gennari is an assistant professor of English. He is currently interim director of ALANA U.S. Ethnic Studies, as well as teaching courses in that discipline. He is the author of the recent book, "Canonizing Jazz: An American Art Form and its Critics." His teaching interests include race and ethnicity in U.S. literary and cultural studies, U.S. cultural history, popular culture and the arts, jazz and Italian-American studies. Gennari has published several articles, reviews and bibliographic essays on these topics in journals including The Langston Hughes Review, Looking at LIFE Magazine, Common Quest, Reconstruction and the Journal of Urban History. He is a member of the American Studies Association, Modern Language Association, Organization of American Historians, New England American Studies Association and American Italian Historical Association. Gennari has received Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Carter G. Woodson Institute, W.E.B. Du Bois Institute and the Smithsonian Institition.
