Colgate 3, Vermont 1
BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Colgate University women's hockey team broke open a 1-1 tie with two third period goals, to defeat Vermont 3-1 on Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Amanda Barre led the Raiders with two goals, including the game-winner, as Colgate improves to 9-10-2 on the year and 3-5-2 in ECAC Hockey League action. Vermont falls to 2-18-3 and 0-9-0 in league play with the loss. The Catamounts opened the scoring just 4:13 into the game when sophomore Ashley Keane (Sherborn, Mass.) netted her second of the season and second in four games. Keane started off the play with a shot that was saved by Colgate net minder Rebecca Lahar, but the Catamounts controlled the rebound and freshman Caroline Donahue (Westwood, Mass.) sent it back out to Keane at the point. Keane didn't miss her second opportunity of the possession as the Cats went up 1-0. The assist by Donahue marked her first collegiate point. The Raiders would tie the game 6:37 into the second period when Barre put back a rebound for her seventh goal on the year. Tara French took a shot from the right side and the rebound ricocheted out to the wide-open Barre. Allison Paiano also recorded an assist on the goal. Barre gave Colgate the lead for good 4:58 into the third as she took a pass from French on the side of the net, faked a shot and wrapped it around and in. Kara Leena made it a two-goal game, with the final tally of the night, as she redirected the original shot by French. Paiano also picked up an assist on the final goal. Lahar made 14 stops in net for Colgate, while senior Kami Cote (Copperton, Utah) turned aside 27 shots for the Catamounts. Colgate also won the first meeting between the two teams this season, 3-0 on November 20 in Hamilton, N.Y. Vermont is back in action on Saturday afternoon, when the Catamounts host Cornell starting at 4:00pm. The Big Red defeated Vermont 4-2 on November 19.
