BURLINGTON, Vt. - University of Vermont sophomore Christen Faltermeier (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) has been awarded the IWLCA Division I Community Service Award. The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association handed out the award that recognizes a student-athlete in each division for their devotion and untiring contribution to community life. Faltermeier is heavily involved in the UVM community off the field. She was one of a select group of students chosen to serve as an orientation leader last summer, helping incoming first year students get acquainted to the university. She currently serves as a resident assistant in the UVM dorms. Faltermeier also helps present late-night on-campus events for the student body as a member of the campus activities team and assists the residence life and admissions departments during admitted student days. She has also been a presenter at UVM's outreach program "Upward Bound", the purpose of which is to give students at an inner-city high school an idea of the responsibilities of being a Division I athlete. She has served as a volunteer at Burlington High School, helping teach a class and participated in the food salvage program in Burlington. The program provides healthy meals to hungry people in the community every Sunday evening and usually serves between 70 and 100 people each evening. Faltermeier plays attack for the Catamounts and registered six goals in 11 games this season. She is a secondary education major at Vermont and owns a 3.57 cumulative GPA. She is a member of the John Dewey Honors Program and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
