BURLINGTON, Vermont - The UVM swimming teams competed in the Northeastern Invitational and a meet at Dartmouth this weekend and came away with some outstanding performances despite a number of illnesses to some key swimmers.

The Vermont women finished fourth at the Northeastern Invititational while the men were third. Against Dartmouth Sunday, Vermont's women lost, 156-84, while the men dropped a 133-43 decision.

Highlights included sophomore Allison Buza (Huntingdon, PA) winning the 500 freestyle in a personal-best time of 5:27.59, just touching out Alyssa Hochman of Dartmouth for the win. Rebecca Witinok-Huber (Iowa City, IA) swam her best time in the 100 butterfly in more than two years to finish second (1:02.32) against Dartmouth, while Ivan Kolleeny (New York, NY) swam personal-best times in the 100 freestyle at both meets.

"It was a good way to end the first semester for us," head coach Gerry Cournoyer said. "We have a lot of student-athletes fighting illnesses on both teams, and I was impressed with how our other swimmers stepped up to fill important roles. I am looking forward to getting both teams healthy to see what we can really do."

Vermont, 1-6 (women) and 0-6 (men), next swims at Norwich (men only) on Dec. 4th. Their next home meet is Jan. 18th against Stony Brook.
