Understanding and treating the underlying causes of sexual obsessions and behaviors are the basis for a new book authored by Gale Golden, a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Vermont and clinical sexology specialist with 45 years in private practice. Titled In the Grip of Desire: a Therapist at Work with Sexual Secrets (Routledge, May 2009), Golden's book reveals details of her therapy process for treating compelling sexual behaviors.
Recently quoted in several national publications, including Glamour magazine, on the topic of sexual relationships and behavior, Golden is co-author of the textbook Sexuality: the Human Experience (Macmillan/McGraw-Hill School Division, 1981). In addition to teaching medical students about human sexuality, she writes a monthly column called "Sex, actually" for Vermont Woman. Her new book was touted as "written for the benefit of both professionals and lay audiences" by Eli Coleman, Ph.D., a University of Minnesota Medical School human sexuality professor.
