On the Border Dance and Practice
Come and dance and play with On the Border Morris. We meet every Tuesday and all are welcome. Our practices are open to beginners and experienced traditional dancers/musicians alike. We always set aside teaching time for those new to Morris.
On the Border Morris performs a sub-genre of traditional English Morris Dance called Welsh Border
Morris or Border Morris for short. Our dance is typified by costume, style, music and just plain rowdiness. Border style differs from other Morris in that we do not use handkerchiefs, relying instead on sticks which are clashed during the dance. There is a general rowdiness in what we do, with many shouts, cheers etc. With all that the dances are quite precise.
We have been dancing since January, 2009, with dancers who are UVM students, faculty and community members.
