The Asbestos & Lead Management Program (ALMP) promotes a safe environment on campus and on University owned properties through compliance with the Federal and state regulatory structure governing asbestos and lead hazards.
Asbestos-containing material is highly regulated by OSHA and EPA. Prior to any renovation or demolition, the ALMP's personnel, which are EPA-trained and Vermont state certified, inspect and test for asbestos containing materials, lead materials and lead based paint; coordinate, design and perform full scale and small scale abatement projects.
The ALMP also coordinates asbestos training, monitors UVM personnel for asbestos and lead exposures and is responsible for implementing the UVM Respiratory Protection Program which includes medical surveillance, training and fit testing of faculty and staff whose work requires the use of a respirator.
