In 2003, Physical Plant created a Maintenance Specialists team to help
service routine minor repair
requests for the campus. The Maintenance Specialists perform minor
repairs that do
not
require
a skilled trades license. There are several
Log Books
kept in central locations
around campus.
Building
Contact persons can
list tasks in the Log Book
for the Maintenance Specialists to handle, without submitting a formal
FAMIS Service Request. The log book is intended to help us
help
campus customers get
small things done in a timely manner, without getting lost among the
hundreds of emergency and preventive maintenance tasks that the skilled
trades crews handle each day.
The Maintenance Specialists are available to perform the following
routine tasks:
HVAC
and PLUMBING TASKS
- UNPLUG TOILETS
- UNPLUG SINKS
- UNPLUG FLOOR DRAINS
- REPAIR LEAKING FAUCETS
- REPAIR FLUSH-O-METERS ON
TOILETS/URINALS
- REPLACE/REPAIR SINK TRAPS
- INVESTIGATE LEAKS IN
BUILDINGS
- KEEP MECHANICAL ROOMS CLEAN
ELECTRICAL
TASKS
- RESPOND TO ELEVATOR CALLS
- REPLACE BROKEN RECEPTACLE OR
SWITCH PLATES
- REPLACE BULBS (IF LIGHT
FIXTURE SPECIALIST NOT IN THE AREA)
- KEEP ELECTRICAL ROOMS CLEAN
- TEST EMERGENCY LIGHTING
- BATTERIES FOR CLOCKS/SMOKE

CARPENTRY/PAINTING
TASKS
- REPLACE CEILING TILES
- CLEAN, OIL AND ADJUST DOOR
HARDWARE
- REPLACE STAIR TREADS
- PAINT AND PATCH WALLS, DOOR
JAMS (SMALL JOBS)
- REPLACE FLOOR TILES PER
ASBESTOS REQUIREMENTS
- CHECK OPERATION OF WINDOWS
AND REPAIR AS NEEDED
